Good Deed Project: Day 27

Today my good deed was for myself! My girlfriend, the one who's cat I was watching, bought me a gift certificate to get my nails done. It was an awesome hour of "just for me" time, and my nails look awesome!

Good Deed Project: Day 18

Today I spent a lot of time with a woman who was having a lot trouble at home.  Listening to her story brought up similarities I have had to face in my past and at the end of the conversation I felt good about everything I said and did.

I don't know if I'll ever see her again but I hope she knows she and her daughters are in my thoughts and prayers.

Good Deed Project: Day 11

I had to go by Michaels to pick up a few things for the shop. The place was packed with shoppers, boxes were everywhere, and the checkout lines were looooong. As you can imagine, this did not make for pleasant conversation with other shoppers. Everyone had somewhere they had to be and no one felt like they should have to wait to check out. When it was finally my turn at the register I could tell the kid was frazzled and frustrated. I gave the kid my best smile and corniest joke and had him laughing by the time he handed me my receipt.

Good Deed Project: Day 9

Today was my smile-at-everyone day. There were some people who were really responsive to my smile and friendly attitude and then there were some who looked at me like I was an alien.

Good Deed Project: Day 8

Today I added a few extra goodies to an internet order I was packaging. Wish I could see the customers face when she opens her package!

Good Deed Project: Day 7

I had to run out yesterday to pick up a few things for a graduation ceremony. When I left the house with my out-of-town guest, it was overcast but not raining. By the time we were getting ready to leave the grocery store it was raining. Wanting to protect her from getting wet, I walked to get the car and picked her up in front of the store.

Good Deed Project: Day 6

It's gingerbread season at Starbucks... my all time favorite drink. As I was ordering my drink (Venti decaf 3 pump gingerbread latte with whip... yum) I was thinking about my good deed for the day. What could I do? Hmmmm, decisions decisions. I decided to buy a Starbucks gift card and left it with the cashier telling him to give it to the next customer.

Good Deed Project: Day 5

I spent 45 minutes on the phone with a girlfriend so she could get a number of things off her chest. I didn't offer advice, judgement, or sympathy... I just listened.

Good Deed Project: Day 4

Today I spent a couple of hours answering questions on my other blog, Ask-A-Witch. For those of you who have read the AAW blog... you know why that counts as a good deed!

What was your good deed?

Good Deed Project: Day 3

I went to Safeway yesterday to pick up a few things for my oh-so-delicious dinner. While checking out, I pressed the $1.00 option for their breast cancer awareness donation. I almost always donate a $1.00 to whatever charity or organization the shops have going. Why? Because no matter how broke I am, how tightly I have to pinch my pennies, I can spare a dollar to help those less fortunate/sicker than me.

Realizing this could be my good deed for the day, I asked the cashier if I could change my amount from $1.00 to $5.00. She seemed annoyed by my request, but told me yes she would have to cancel the original donation through her manager. Normally, I would have said never mind because I wouldn't want to hold up the line or make the manager come over, etc.  Instead I told her that would be great.

Good Deed Project: Day 2

About an hour after the shop opened yesterday, a little boy and his mom came in to look for some "rocks."  I was working on some candles and noticed the little boy was taking his time with the gemstones. Looking at each one, reading the descriptions, and choosing the "perfect ones" to add to his little bag.  Every now and then he'd ask me a question, but for the most part he just made his way through stones in silence.

About 45 minutes later he tells me that he is ready to check out. Together we head to the register and I asked him if he found everything he was looking for.  He said yes, he found the perfect rocks to add to his healing bag and he had been saving up his money for weeks to get them.

When he put his five perfect stones on the counter, along with his $5.00 bill, I knew immediately that he didn't have enough money. Let me tell you, that little boy has great taste in stones and picked semi expensive stones to boot. Amazingly enough, as I rang him out, the register came out to exactly $5.00... tax and all!

Good Deed Project: Day 1

A few weeks ago a girlfriend of mine, The Enchanted Life, and I decided to challenge each other to perform one good deed a day from November 1 to December 21. As I sit here to write this blog, I find myself wondering... What qualifies as a good deed? Does smiling and saying good morning to everyone I saw even though I was exhausted count? Does allowing numerous cars merge into my lane count? Is a good deed a good deed if I didn't spend any money to perform it? To me, a good deed is any action I perform which helps another person either mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, or financially.  The next 51 days should be a lot of fun!

Good Deed Day 1: This morning I decided to send energy and prayers to everyone who mentioned needing some type of healing to me in the last couple of weeks.
